Canning Crackers???

Can we do it? Yes we can! Some of the ladies and I got together and tried this!We’re still watching jars to open up at a year and beyond, but how could they be any different? Simple and safe! Give it a try! 🙂

Canning Crackers

1 quart canning jar (with lid and new seal)
1 sleeve of saltine crackers

Place entire sleeve of crackers (without the wrapper) inside the quart jar.
Set the jar(s) on a cookie sheet
Put cookie sheet with jars into a cold oven
Turn oven on to preheat to 235*.
When oven is preheated to 235*, set the timer for 40 minutes.
When the timer goes off, turn off the oven and open the oven door a little bit to let the heat escape.
When the jars have cooled a bit, take the cookie sheet and jars out of the oven. (Don’t set the glass jars on a cool surface…they will explode! Just leave them on the cookie sheet!)
Once the jars have cooled, you should hear the seals begin to “POP” as they are finished. If they don’t seal…you may have to go through the process with the unsealed jars again.

I have also tried this with snack crackers, a cake mix, coffee beans, and pretzels. I have dated the tops of the jars to be checked for freshness next year. The crackers have already been tested successfully for freshness after 6 months of being sealed up in the jar. J
